Self Care and Comfort Food

It's been a hard winter so this weekend, March 29,30, 2014, is predicted to have several inches of pouring rain. I'm glad it's not snow and plan on spending an afternoon drinking wine and eating my favorite snack.
Trader Joe's Organic White corn tortilla chips, lay them out in two layers on a dinner size paper plate for full comfort. Use smaller desert plate if you don't want to feel guilty.
Shred and cover chips with Pepper Jack Cheese, and sprinkle a few drops of Frank's Red Hot sauce.
Microwave for 30 seconds and out comes a delicious treat.
I just ate my plate watching re-runs of SNL with Jimmy Fallon from the Free on Demand menu.
Yes, I just broke two keep your weight down rules: used food for comfort, snacked mindlessly while watching TV.
Here is the reason I believe that food was meant to be our comfort. What else do we really have? If you answer exercise I'm gonna hit you. Yes, exercise is fun but it doesn't replace the easy predictable soothing of our favorite comfort foods. The secret is to find yours and enjoy regularly so you don't eat too many foods that are not really comforting you. For example if your comfort treat is a bag of french fries from McDonald's then don't waste your calories on anything but what you crave. Truly enjoy every bite and savor the magic of getting what you crave.

Make a list of your must have favorite foods and make sure you have them in your life. My list:
1. Eggplant Parmigiana
2. Spinach pinwheels with mozzarella cheese & salami or ham
3. Red wine
4. Mac n Cheese
5. Ribs
6. Hamburgers
7. French Fries
8. Corn Chips
9. Popcorn
10. Buttered Kaiser roll

Keeping these babies in my life makes me sane. It doesn't keep me model thin but at least I am not too overweight.
